Overview

The Panchase trek is one of the most popular small treks from Pokhara, and for several reasons. On the one hand, it is one of the few treks where you don’t have to pay any kind of permit fee, which is very unusual in Nepal. On the other hand, it is very affordable and can be done in two or three days, or extended by linking it with other routes. But be careful, there are some sections that climb quite steeply and the descent down stone steps should be taken slowly.

Although it does not reach high heights, the views of the Himalayan mountains are quite spectacular. The area through which the trail passes, with views also over the valleys, passes through dense forests and small open meadows where buffalo graze. By contrast, it only crosses the villages of Bhadaure and Bhanjyang, so you will walk most of the way without encountering any locals. In this sense, if you are interested in a gentler and more cultural trek, we recommend the Bajthala itineraries, where you will also be able to avoid climbing quite a few steps.

Here we present the option from Kande to Ghatichhina, which is more advisable as you lose altitude, in the two-day version, which is the one we recommend. But you can also leave in the afternoon on the first day and sleep in Bhadaure.

One option would be to walk it in the opposite direction and end up with the spectacular views of the Australian Camp. However, we warn you that the journey from Ghatichhina to Bhanjyang, is steep, climbs a lot, and gains over 1200 metres.
